About the Cool Wall

Jeremy Clarkson has his Cool Wall, mostly for automobiles on Top Gear; so we thought we could we could create our own Cool Wall for all of transport.

We haven't necessarily been involved in all of the projects, although we have been involved in some of them. They are just things that we think are cool. They are innovations, which we think are changing the face of transport. They are things that are helping to the world better for the traveller.

If you've got a nomination for the  the Cool Wall, then please contact us or join us in making the Cool Wall even cooler.

Cool Wall Instructions

There are four main views for the Cool Wall:

  1. Timeline
  2. Flipbook
  3. List, and
  4. Map

You can change the view in the top-left hand corner. You can also search from the top-right hand corner, where you can also look and enter data in Dipity's own website. (N.B. This is not maintained by Rethinking Transport.)

Hence, each Cool Wall entry has four attributes that we need to record:

  1. when the innovation came to market (so we know when to display it in the timeline),
  2. a graphic which captures the essence of the innovation (and is displayed in the flip-book and on the flag on the timeline),
  3. a name and some supporting text to describe the entry which is used in the List view, and finally
  4. a place where the innovation was first brought into service (and is used in the map display).

Join Us

Come and join the party and help make the world an easier place to travel around, by giving a "shout out" for things which you think are cool in the world of transport.

There are two main ways to get involved:

1) Firstly, use our contact forms to recommend one of your projects as a cool innovation in transport. We'll need a striking (and apt) graphic and a short blurb, making the case for your project. If at all possible, we'll need a date and a location. Also, there is plenty of scope for providing linking URLs to publicise your work.

N.B. Feel free to publicise and recommend other people's work too; as there's nothing like a personal recommendation from someone who wasn't involved.

Please note that, just like in Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson's decision on what is cool and what is not is absolute; I also reserve the ultimate right to decide what to publish on this site, based on my own judgement; but I will of course listen to what the community has to say.

2) If you don't fancy filling in forms (as simple as they may be); there is also a public Dipity site and a Wikia site (Ideas in Transit) from where this Cool Wall is drawn. So a great way to get onto the Rethinking Transport Cool Wall of fame is to fill in all of the necessary data into the public Dipity site.

Go on, let us know what you think and get involved and let's make transport better.
